Aim: Fun in the sun without overspending

Whilst Vitamin D may lift your spirits, a lack of cash will not. Here are some useful tips to make the most of your budget during the sunny season:

HAPPY HOUR!

Everyone likes to go out to bars and restaurants when the weather’s nice, especially ones with outdoor seating. It’s an expensive proposition, but one that can be a little cheaper if you time your visit right. Look out for happy hour specials – do a little online search for deals in your area. You’ll have all the fun at half the cost.

FREE ENTERTAINMENT

You don’t always need to spend money to have a good time. For example, invite friends to join you for a picnic at a local park or beach. Everyone can bring their own snacks and kids can run around and have a great time for minimal to no costs.

THROW CHEAP PARTIES

The best way to avoid blowing money at restaurants or bars is to stick to house parties. Ask friends/family to bring snacks and drinks so that cost is evenly distributed. Make homemade punch to avoid spending extra money on six-packs.

EXERCISE OR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities and get started on those exercise programs. Running or walking on the beachfront, riding bikes or hiking are all examples of free activities that will give you a burst of endorphins and boost your mood to match the sunny weather.

BUDGET AHEAD OF TIME

This is especially important of the summer/holiday period when you are tempted to spend more socially. Make sure you have your weekly or monthly budget planned. Stick to this budget or plan ahead to allocate yourself more cash towards a busier, more social time of the month.
